Tharwa Campus Redevelopment

Outward Bound’s National Campus at Tharwa, ACT is undergoing a transformation for you and your students.

We’ve worked closely with the builder to retain as much of the existing historic fabric of the original buildings, and construction is well underway on new:

  • bushcraft workshops so students take home a hand-made souvenir of their Outward Bound program,
  • outdoor cooking and dining spaces,
  • indoor/outdoor learning spaces
  • flow track for mountain bikes
  • and much more!

“The Possum Shed”

Now the possums have been relocated to cozy boxes on the quiet, outside wall of the building, construction of the new kitchen, pizza oven and outdoor dining space is well under way. This will provide your students with an alternate cooking opportunity on their way through campus on expedition programs or as a stand alone initiative for an on-campus program, whether they’re camping or staying in cabins.

“The Challenge Shed”

For when for when students need to learn more than just resilience from nature’s more challenging elements… There’s only so much learning you can undertake when you’re cold and wet. Giving students the opportunity to reset, dry some gear and warm up will re-invigorate them for the remainder of their journey.

Rope Making Workshop Ideas

Bushcraft workshops will become more of a focus for on-campus programs at Outward Bound Tharwa. Who doesn’t love a hand-made rope bracelet? (…or is that just me? – Ian). These images are from Loren’s recce in UK recently.
