Fisherman’s Point Cruise – 70 Years Celebration
Fisherman’s Point holds a special place in the history of Outward Bound Australia. As our first permanent base from 1958 to 1973, it is a location filled with memories for many of our earliest participants. In honour of our 70th anniversary, we invite you to return with us to this remarkable part of the Hawkesbury River and revisit the place where so many adventures began.
On Sunday 24 May 2026, we have chartered a three-hour cruise aboard the M.V. Emily Melvey – the only vessel able to dock at historic Bar Island. The cruise will include:
- A stop at Bar Island with the opportunity, for those who are able, to walk to the memorial honouring the two instructors lost at Hume Weir in 1963.
- A scenic journey past the entrance to Marramarra Creek, where surfboat paddling and sailing once formed part of the training for Outward Bound leaders.
- Views of HMAS Parramatta and other landmarks along the Hawkesbury.
The Emily Melvey offers an open upper deck for uninterrupted views, and a fully enclosed lower deck to ensure comfort in all weather conditions. Toilets are available onboard.
