For the past 60 years, people have challenged themselves on unique outdoor adventure programs with Outward Bound Australia (OBA) – building their confidence, growing with others and connecting with nature.

As a community organisation, Outward Bound has likewise been challenged over the years, evolving with each bump in the road. However, the 2019/20 bushfire season and the COVID-19 pandemic have been particularly demanding for Outward Bound Australia. Yet they have created an opportunity for renewal and rebirth, and we are embracing this with both hands.

New Leadership

In March this year, Dr Loren Miller took on the leadership of this iconic organisation, re-hoisted the Blue Peter and has carefully and successfully guided the ship through uncharted and sometimes turbulent waters! Yet now we are able to look boldly towards the future; repositioning OBA for a brave new world where adventure learning is a powerful pathway to unlock our full potential.

Program Locations

Outward Bound Australia are passionate about long-lasting partnerships. We want to make the biggest impact on our participants through inspiring programs that allows them to thrive throughout life; wherever that may take them. In 2021, we are planning for a year-long season at our ACT base in Tharwa, and shorter seasons at Walpole in WA and the Grampians in Victoria.

Canberra School Excursion Accommodation

We welcome you stay in our newly renovated cabins at Tharwa on your Canberra excursion. A day on the high ropes course is a perfect capstone for a trip the national capital and you have a vareity of accommodation options to choose from. Our chef is amazing too!

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

OBA will become an Open Award Centre for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (Australia) in NSW, ACT and WA in 2021 with a view to ‘going national’ when feasible. Outward Bound and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award were both founded by Kurt Hahn and the synergy in our core beliefs and outcomes is a foundation we want to strengthen. Email Caroline at dukeofed@outwardbound.org.au if we can ease your administrative burden by coordinating the award for your school.

We have being carefully returning to delivering programs with our partner schools since September and are looking forward to resuming full operations in the new year. There are still opportunities for bookings throughout 2021, including a small number of openings in Term 1 next year. We would love to hear from you about how we can design a program to fit the needs of your students. We know that getting kids outdoors is more important now than it has ever been before!

A program with Outward Bound is an investment into the future of your students. They are journeys of self-discovery that enable people to develop inner strength, teamwork and leadership skills to sustain themselves, their communities and the environment throughout their lives. Join us, as we navigate this path together.
