Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and Outward Bound were both founded by Kurt Hahn in partnership with HRH Prince Philip The Duke of Edinburgh and Laurence Holt respectively. Both the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and Outward Bound exist to help people achieve their full potential by serving their communities, testing themselves physically, emotionally and socially and pushing themselves out of their comfort zones to experience true growth of character.

Outward Bound Australia are proud to be an Open Award Centre for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in the ACT, NSW and Victoria.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Open Award Centre. What does it mean?

An open award centre is a Duke of Ed award centre with no membership restrictions. You don’t need to be a student at a particular school, a member of a club or have any prior affiliation with Outward Bound. The only requirements to register for your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award with Outward Bound is to be between 14 and 24 years old.

It means we do all the admin required to have your Duke of Ed award signed off by the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Australia. When you do your Voluntary Service, Physical Recreation, Skill, Adventurous Journey and Residential Project (Gold level only) we check your Assessor has all the right skills or qualifications and we check your Online Record Book afterwards. Outward Bound have run Adventurous Journeys and Residential Projects for years and are about to start organising the Voluntary Service, Physical Recreation and Skill components too. We hope you do those award sections with us but we don’t mind if you do them with someone else. We won’t penalise you for or discourage you from doing your award components with any other provider. We just want you to complete your award.

If you want to do the Duke of Ed award but your school or sporting club doesn’t run it, this is for you. If you’ve recently left school, haven’t completed your award and the school won’t let you continue under their award centre, we can help you complete your award.
