National Aspiring Leaders Summit '10
The 2010 Outward Bound National Aspiring Leaders Summit was a huge success. Thirty three young people from across Australia came to Outward Bound's National Centre in Canberra for the seven-day leadership program. Congratulations to all the young people who participated and are now making a big difference in their communities.
We asked the participants to provide feedback on the program, comments included:
- ‘It has given me more confidence and has taught me how to be a better leader’
- ‘It has helped me realise I can be a better person and do more help others’
- ‘It has helped shown me I can overcome challenges. I have learned how to work better in groups’
- ‘It has taught me how to be a better leader and has helped me find direction for my life’
Intern Class move Upward and Outward
Outward Bound’s latest group of interns, nicknamed the Oscars, graduated recently at a ceremony at National Base at Tharwa. The ceremony was the culmination of an eight month course which teaches skills and leadership.
Outward Bound is a National Centre for excellence in training outdoor leaders. Each graduating member of the class earned their Certificate IV in Outdoor Education.
New Research: What impact does Outward Bound have on communities?
Cranbrook School's longitudinal study of outdoor education
Cranbrook partners with Outward Bound Australia for the delivery of its outdoor experiential learningprograms. The school sends students from Year 7 to 10 on an Outward Bound course every year. More than 500 boys participate starting at a relatively young age in Year 7 and continuing through courses that increase in challenge and seriousness to Year 10.
The study – the first to follow outcomes over a four year period – shows the boys develop slowly in Year 7, then gather speed through Year 8 and 9 before emerging with life skills that are literally off the scale of academic measurement at the conclusion of their Year 10 course.
Cranbrook’s Year 10 students notched scores well above those anticipated by the scale of measurement, achieving results in the 150% range for improvements in most life skill areas.

National Aspiring Leaders Summit 2010 Delegates Announced
Outward Bound would like to congratulate the following people who have been chosen to attend the National Aspiring Leaders Summit for 2010. The delegates will head to National Base in May for a seven day experience to help them develop skills they can use to make a positive difference in the community.
Held in partnership with The Smith Family, this is the fourth year we have hosted the summit. It is fast becoming one of Australia's premiere youth leadership events. We hope the delegates are as excited as we are.
