In March 2003 Outward Bound Australia conducted the inaugural Schools Outdoor Education programs for Airds High School and Eaglevale High School from Campbelltown, southwest of Sydney. 70 students participated in a 5-day Outward Bound experience at Tharwa, ACT.

In 2004 over 110 students from Airds and Eagle Vale High Schools participated. 2005 and 2006 have seen the program develop with similar numbers of students participating in the program, developing their initiative and learnings in the unique learning environment away from the everyday structures and distractions of Southern Western Sydney.

The success of this program has lead to a number of schools enquiring into the the development of an Outdoor Education model into their curriculum from the area and the expansion of the program beyond the two initial participation schools to a number of schools from the greater Sydney region.

"I'm in heaven, I don't want to go back ... We need to bring more kids next year". (accompanying teacher on 2003 course)

We are grateful for the generous support of the Westpac Foundation, Macquarie Bank Foundation and HBOS Australia for making this program possible.

If your school or organisation is interested in getting involved in this project please contact the Regional Partnerships Manager.
