Monaro Regional Partnership

In 2004 Monaro High School began an Outward Bound Regional Partnership with Assistance from Danks Tryst, Burra Foods, HBOS Australia and the Monaro District Education Foundation. Ever since, they have enjoyed a steady strengthening of local support for this excellent outdoor education program.

The Monaro Region encompasses schools and students from Cooma, Berridale, Jindabyne, Nimmitabel, Dalgety and Adaminaby communities. Monaro High School is a learning community with a strong emphasis on the principles of motivation, humanity and society.

In a short amount of time, over 200 students have attended an Outward Bound Outdoor Education Program and new schools in Jindabyne Central, St Patrick's College Cooma and Snowy Mountains Christian School have joined the program seeing the unique learning outcome benefits to students.

Students can apply for a scholarship directly with their school.

I was very impressed with the course and the growth and maturity that all students demonstrated at the end of the course

Murrumarrah / Harden / Boorowa / Cowra Regional Partnership

Also in 2004 the Harden and Murrumburrah community began a Regional Partnership. The Outward Bound scheme involves a plan for an ongoing joint venture with the Harden-Murrumburrah District community, with a goal of a permanent outdoor experiential experience to be of the Year 9 curriculum at Murrumburrah High.

With support from the Kruger Trust and the Country Education Foundation the program has now expanded to incorporate opportunities for Boorowa Central School.2004 also saw the inaugural Outward Bound outdoor education program for the Cowra Region. Cowra High School and St Raphaels College have secured strong community support for their Outward Bound initiative.

Now with years of growing successes from the Monaro, Cowra, and Murrumburrah Regional Partnership programs, along with Mildura Sunraysia Partnership in South Western NSW, the future of Outward Bound in Southern NSW is looking very strong. More recently Albury High School and Billabong High School (Holbrook/Culcairn) have approached Outward Bound to develop their Outdoor Education community programs.

If you are interested in developing Outdoor Education opportunities to young people in your region or supporting the ongoing development of the Southern NSW Outward Bound youth initiative through membership of the committees of financial support, please contact Outward Bound's Regional Partnership Coordinator
