What are my options after the Internship Program?
In the seventh month of the program you will be given an opportunity to apply for a 'Group Instructor' role with Outward Bound Australia.
Your application will be assessed on five primary criteria. These are skills, experience, training and qualifications, personal attributes and attitude/performance/behaviour. Many of the sub-criteria will have been obtained during your Internship program.
There are a limited number of vacanices available for permanent full-time instructors. There are alternative options available such as seasonal or casual work opportunities.
Group Instructor Selection Criteria
Skills
Ability to work within a team
Sound understanding of experiential education
Activity/Group risk analysis and management skills
Ability to safely run the range of outdoor activities used by Outward Bound
Proven understanding of Outward Bound Australia philosophy and values and their implementation
Ability to lead small work teams
Experience
Experience leading groups in an Outdoor Setting
Experience in Behavioural Management
Experience facilitating group development
Outward Bound Specific
Observe 1 course
Assist 1 course
Back-up 1 course
Assessment Course
Training and Qualifications
Essential
Solo course units of competency and/or Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation.

Bronze Medallion
Bushwalking specialisation
Canoe guide grade 2 specialisation
River Rescue Award
Rafting skills and experience
4WD skills and experience
OBA specific

Internship intakes occur twice a year, in January and July. If offered a position as a Group Instructor, employment will commence eight months after the start of the Internship.
