16 Years of CFA Challenge. The Country Fire Authority (CFA) challenge course was started in 1993, with the Outward Bound component included in 1994 as an integral part of it. The course is a large, prestigious training program for volunteers with participants being selected from all over the state.
The CFA consists of approximately 90% volunteers and 10% full-time staff who are located mainly in Victoria. Participants come from varying “walks of life” and have a variety of roles and responsibilities in the CFA organisation. The program emphasis is on leadership and teamwork combined with challenge, development and fun. The Chairman’s Volunteer Scholarship is awarded to those chosen to participate in the Challenge program. The scholarship is provided as a means to promote and encourage the development of people within the CFA organisation and in the surrounding communities. It is aimed at developing the future leaders of CFA. The overall program spans over 12 days with the Outward Bound component running from day 4 to day 11. The program commences with a 3-day personal development program- “The Life Performance Component”. This component of the program is mainly theory based while the Outward Bound component enables participants to put learning’s into practice and to relate it to their lives.
