Active ImageInstructor: Romeo Intern

From: Victoria, Australia

Age: 23

Eleanor started with OBA in Jan '07 as one of 15 "Romeo" interns.  In her time here she has overcome many personal challenges on her raod to instructing. Read on to find out what she thinks about living and working at Outward Bound.

What brought me to Outward Bound was the prospect of living and working in a close-knit team, to bring exhilarating experiences to course participants. I am inspired by the passion and enthusiasm my colleagues have for running courses and for life in general.

My most memorable time at Outward Bound so far was 6 nights on my own camping in a cave! I was support for an activity that required I set up at 7am, ensure site and equipment safety and supervise groups as they came through. I stayed in a cave on a beautiful ridge, walked to the activity site at dawn and walked out on dusk. This is my most memorable experience because it challenged me! I was comfronted by the enormity of my responsibility and being alone for 6 nights in the wilderness. Now I have experienced an OBA life changing experience and I can Walk the Talk!

One day I would like to ride the length of the B500 Great Alpine Road. From Wangaratta to Bruthen the road crosses alps and reaches toward the sea, flanking the Tambo river. This would be a pinnacle ride for me, the ultimate mountain challenge, surrounded by the most picruresque sights and sounds of nature. I can't wait!

What would you say to someone thinking of doing an Outward Bound course?

If you think too long, you may miss the opportunity of a lifetime.

Marcelo Silveira

Active ImageStaff-in-Training Coordinator

Marcelo is our original Brazilian.  He grew up in Sao Paulo and, other than travelling a lot; he was never away from home for more than a year until he came to Outward Bound Australia in 2002. Marcelo has always been a hard worker - working in his family business from the age of 17, as well as going to school and university.

He worked in a management role in the business until he sold it and moved on to study to be a park ranger.  Marcelo's first job as a ranger was on one of Brazil's beautiful islands in the south of the country. Here he met a man who, because Marcelo expressed interest in experiential education, recommended Outward Bound to him.
