Casual Instructor Positions PDF Print E-mail

We are opening up casual employment opportunities to the Australian and international outdoor professional field!

Traditionally, casual staff utilised during our peak seasons have been solely ex-Outward Bound Australia instructors. We are offering a great opportunity to individuals that have not previously experienced working at Outward Bound to deliver our exciting programs.

We will be holding a 7 day Instructor Induction Program for successful applicants, that do not have previous Outward Bound experience, in January 2009. We are seeking staff who have some degree of outdoor education experience, and are looking to build their level of experience further.

Prefered qualifications include:

  • Advanced Wilderness First Aid
  • Bronze Medallion
  • CPR certificate
  • Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation

We are offering ongoing casual work opportunities and once you have participated in the induction program, you will be added to our staffing pool permanently.

Benefits of becoming a casual staff member

  • Competitive rates of pay, inline with industry standards
  • Tremendous variety in the role, all courses being multi-activity, multi-day, and journey based with a mixture of both school, youth and adults programs.
  • We have mobile areas in Northern NSW, ACT, VIC and WA. Working at Outward Bound enables staff to see some of the most natural, untouched places in the country.
  • We have a diverse international staff culture and are community minded, many strong friendships are formed and there is plenty of fun to be had.

Location of Work

The areas in which you will work are dependant on operational need, as well as your preferred location. Possible areas include Northern NSW, VIC, ACT and WA. Job opportunities are State based, so you can work close to home if you like.

The next Instructor Induction program is January 2009.

Mike Peoples

Active ImageRomeo Intern (January 2007)

It was time to make a decision after six years at uni culminating in one teaching degree to either become a professional uni student or take the world by storm and join Outward Bound Australia. I decided to hop on the Outward Bound fun bus and applied for the internship to get outdoors and active and away from the doom and gloom of essays and tutorials. The internship has been great fun so far. I've learnt tons of new skills, met some awesome people and been to magnificent areas.
