Burringurrah is a remote Aboriginal community situated 450km east of Carnarvon, 300km north west of Meekatharra and 450km south of the largest rock in the world, 'Mount Augustus'.  The roads are mostly unsealed, with the nearest town 300km away.  Wet weather can cause road closures during the summer months.

The population of the community varies from 200-500 people.  The school caters for children from the age of 3 to Year 12.  All students that attend the school reside within the community. The numbers of students attending can vary from week to week depending on cultural activities within the community. In 2007, eight students from the school attended a seven-day Outward Bound Outdoor Education Course in and around the Walpole-Nornalup National Park.  The girls and accompanying staff travelled for three days to get from Burringurrah to Walpole - a huge undertaking!

The girls were given opportunities to challenge themselves mentally and physically, and gained valuable life skills.  The program enabled them to improve self-awareness and self-management, develop resilience, initiative and responsibility, and to improve their relationship skills, developing closer friendships with their peers and the accompanying school staff.  There was also a strong emphasis on appreciation of service, and the value of doing something for others.  The students are not often placed in situations where they need to push themselves, and they proved they are capable of achieving more than they thought possible.

Burringurrah Remote Community School were recipients of financial assistance from the Australian Outward Bound Development Fund (AOBDF), to support the costs involved with giving their students the opportunity to participate in their Outward Bound program in 2007.
