Aged 16 - 23 years? Apply to sail on the tall ship Young Endeavour for the challenge of a lifetime.

Outward Bound – your next big adventure?

Since you finished your Young Endeavour Voyage, have you ever wondered what your next challenge may be?

Outward Bound is like Young Endeavour, only on land! Our journeys share the same amazing threads – adventurous journeys in new territory, bringing together amazing young people who are given
the opportunity to test themselves, inspire each other and come back with a new outlook on life
and the world.

Young Endeavour graduates have found Outward Bound to be a great next step in creating an inspiring life of adventure. This was the choice of Erin Foley who came to Outward Bound recently to complete
an internship in Outdoor Recreation. Here she shares her story:

OB:   Do you remember how you felt when you finished your voyage? What did you
think? How did it inspire you?

EF:   When I completed my voyage on the Young Endeavour I remember feeling exhilarated
and empowered – I had just spent a week on the open seas with a bunch of strangers I
had never met before, but who were now all my good friends. The sense of
achievement and satisfaction with myself is something that I still remember quite
clearly as it was such a life changing experience, that I will never forget.

        I was now in the frame of mind that I could do anything; no challenge was impossible;
putting my mind to something was the first step to success. I was incredibly inspired by
the crew members of the ship to choose a career path that would enable me to work
outdoors in a fun and exciting environment where I could help people.

OB:   In what ways do you think Outward Bound is like Young Endeavour?

EF:   I think Outward Bound and Young Endeavour share a similar approach to personal
development in that they both use challenging outdoor activities as a way to inspire
people to realise and achieve their potential. Similar to Outward Bound, the actual hard
skills of sailing, navigating etc are not the main focus of the voyage, but tools used to
help participants grow and learn about themselves and their self-imposed limits.

OB:    What inspired you to come to Outward Bound?

EF:    The opportunity to work outdoors, in the natural environment, while helping people
achieve their potential in the same way that the YE staff inspired me. I want to be able
to inspire and motivate others so that they can get the most out of life, and the most
        out of themselves.

OB:    What would you say to someone who has just finished a YE voyage and is
        looking for the next challenge?

EF:    I would definitely recommend Outward Bound to anyone who has sailed on the Young
Endeavour and is looking for the next challenge. Whether it is as a participant on a
Summit to Sea course, or by doing an internship. For me personally, I found YE to be
the perfect stepping stone to Outward Bound as it enabled me to learn and discover so
much about myself, more than I had ever imagined. Since coming to Outward Bound I
have realised that this process of learning and discovery never ends. Through my own
personal development and growth. I hope to be able to lead more people down that
same path towards realising their full potential and that their possibilities are endless.
