Outward Bound Australia's Regional Community Partnerships programs are designed to provide opportunities for young people from regional areas to discover, develop and achieve their potential, and to foster growth in local communities.
Following on the success of the inaugural South West course in 2008, Outward Bound is pleased to announce that we will be conducting a Regional Community Partnership program for the Great Southern region later this year.
Course dates: Saturday 6th - Friday 12th September 2008
Location: Walpole-Nornalup National Park, Western Australia.
An initial community information session will be held to provide details about the scholarships and the course:
Thirty five adventurous Year 9 students from across the South West of Western Australia recently took up the challenge of a seven day Outward Bound course in the beautiful Walpole-Nornalup National Park on WA's South Coast.
The students were recipients of scholarships for the inaugural South West Regional Community Partnership Year 9 Foundations Course, thanks to major sponsor HBOS Australia Foundation. The scholarships enabled students to participate who may not otherwise have had the opportunity to do so.
Burringurrah is a remote Aboriginal community situated 450km east of Carnarvon, 300km north west of Meekatharra and 450km south of the largest rock in the world, 'Mount Augustus'. The roads are mostly unsealed, with the nearest town 300km away. Wet weather can cause road closures during the summer months.
The population of the community varies from 200-500 people. The school caters for children from the age of 3 to Year 12. All students that attend the school reside within the community. The numbers of students attending can vary from week to week depending on cultural activities within the community.
