Outward Bound Australia Manifesto PDF Print E-mail
Since it’s inception over 50 years ago, Outward Bound has provided challenging experiences that have helped people discover, develop and achieve their potential. We were founded on helping young people prepare for the challenges and uncertainty of life and this remains our core reason for being.

We are the leader in developing human potential.  In bringing out the best in people, we aim Abseilto develop the most positive elements of the human character, consistent with our core values: Integrity, Responsibility, Resilience, Compassion, Service and Human Potential.

We aim for our programs to reach as many people as we can serve.  This growth is always achieved in conjunction with maintaining the highest quality programs and delivering safe life-changing experiences.

We reach beyond Australia’s youth to serve a broad range of people who can benefit from one of Outward Bound’s life-changing experiences. Our programs impact directly and indirectly: teenagers, young adults, business professionals, community leaders and families. We seek to serve and develop the potential of people with mixed abilities and those of diverse cultural backgrounds. We have an important role in developing the potential of individuals, teams, leaders, organisations, communities and the broader Australian society.

We aim to remain affordable and accessible for all Australians. We believe all people have the right to discover, develop and achieve their potential. We work in the natural world, allowing people to expand their awareness and appreciation for the environment. Our practices respect the areas we work in, leaving minimal impact so that they can be enjoyed by future generations.

We are passionate about taking people on learning journeys to discover their potential.  Outward Bound journeys are both inward and external journeys of discovery. In our base camps, programs and offices, we seek to create a model for how the world can be: a compassionate world where people of diverse backgrounds are unconditionally accepted for who they are, and encouraged to become the best they can be.

We understand the importance of strong values-based leadership in society. We explicitly aim to create outstanding leaders who are actively engaged in service in their schools, organisations and communities.

We operate our business responsibly and with integrity, so that the mission and work of Outward Bound is sustainable and able to serve future generations. We are an independent non-profit organisation. We remain firmly focused on what we are best at and passionate about: developing human potential.

“We are all better than we know. If we can only come to discover this we may never again settle for anything less” – Kurt Hahn

Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation

The Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation was launched in August 2004 to enable the Newcastle Permanent Building Society to provide funding for causes, initiatives and projects in the Hunter, Central Coast and Mid-North Coast regions that might otherwise not exist or be realised.

The Foundation has a dedicated funding pool provided by Newcastle Permanent. Working from that funding base, the Foundation uses its financial expertise to grow the funds available and generate an ongoing income stream that will be used to support worthy causes.

It is anticipated that at least $1million a year will be available for distribution by the Foundation and that this level of support may grow over time. In the first two and a half years of operation the Foundation has supported more than 95 local community projects from Woy Woy in the south to Coffs Harbour in the north with grants totalling more than $2.5 million.
