Australians are working more than ever before and finding balance in life increasingly important but difficult to achieve. In a competitive job market, employers around Australia are increaingly aware of the importance of supporting their staff both at work and in achieving their desired balance in life. Outward Bound is proud to support Australian businesses in providing opportunities for their staff and families.
Since 2003, Boral have provided their staff around Australia with scholarship opportunities to participate in an Outward Bound course. Boral staff from diverse levels within many of their businesses are able to embark on a 9-day journey with a son or daughter. These programs are conducted in ACT, WA, Victoria and Northern New South Wales.
More than 100 Boral people have now participated in the nine-day Family Re-Discovery Program. The program is no walk in the park, but for employees who have faced the challenge with their son or daughter, they have grown through a common positive experience. Their overwhelmingly positive feedback tells me that lives have changed! This is a unique way to help employees re-balance work and family life; the rewards have been significant, not only for the individuals but for the company.
