The Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation was launched in August 2004 to enable the Newcastle Permanent Building Society to provide funding for causes, initiatives and projects in the Hunter, Central Coast and Mid-North Coast regions that might otherwise not exist or be realised. The Foundation has a dedicated funding pool provided by Newcastle Permanent. Working from that funding base, the Foundation uses its financial expertise to grow the funds available and generate an ongoing income stream that will be used to support worthy causes. It is anticipated that at least $1million a year will be available for distribution by the Foundation and that this level of support may grow over time. In the first two and a half years of operation the Foundation has supported more than 95 local community projects from Woy Woy in the south to Coffs Harbour in the north with grants totalling more than $2.5 million.
