The staff at Outward Bound Australia would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for a Happy New Year! Successful Internship Applicants! Nine Outward Bound enthusiasts have just recently been accepted into an eight month Outward Bound Internship. Having completed the internship successfully, interns may be offered a permanent position as an instructor at Outward Bound. Becoming a leader at Outward Bound is a lifestyle choice; therefore internship applicants undergo a fairly rigorous process. After submitting a resume, the applicants are invited to a four-day selection process, which involves expedition, sharing of skills, insight into the organisation, interviews, meeting of staff and delivering presentations. On the fourth and final day, applicants discover if they have been selected to take part in the internship. Read more... Former staff member Philip Edwardes reflects on Outward Bound Philip Edwardes, a former Outward Bound staff member, reflects on the uniqueness of Outward Bound and it's people when dealing with an all familiar but challenging experience. On the weekend I took a group of four kids and one ex student (effectively the same as a ‘gappie) from our school to the Cooleman area to do their Duke of Edinburgh bronze level expedition. This is the first time any sort of Outdoor Education has been attempted at our school in a long time so it was a big thing for parents and students. We camped at Coolamine Mountain campsite (about 6km back along the road from Blue Water Holes) on Sunday night and then set off on our walk along Mosquito Creek Fire Trail looking much like a truncated Outward Bound group with our ex Outward Bound Australia packs, long sleeves and long pants. The day went really well with many "How long till we get there’s? " and equally as many "Let’s look at the map’s." There was much excitement at the many brumbies in the area as two of our kids are ‘horsey’ types. Read more... Internship Graduation The 18th of December 2007 marked the awe-inspiring and emotional graduation for intern groups; the Sierras and the Indias at Outward Bound National Base, Tharwa. Long and hard continuous months finally paid off for the thirteen inspirational individuals as they received a Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation. It was a day of celebration and staff recognition as family, friends and Outward Bound staff looked on, while the graduating interns touched the hearts of all who were present. Read more... Fifteen individuals from all walks of life, including two incredible instructors, recently completed a fourteen-day epic journey in the proximity of Namadgi National Park. The inspiring group of people, who named themselves Carpe Diem (Latin for ‘Seize the Day’), discovered the intense two weeks to be an eye opener into the challenges of everyday life. Nevertheless, the Outward Bounders look onward to their future as they plan to apply the skills they have gained to the challenges that lay ahead. Read more...
Thank you to our Partners In October Outward Bound hosted a function to recognise supporters and program partners of the Australian Outward Bound Development Fund especially funding partners in scholarships and the regional community programs. Last year Outward Bound raised over $300,000 through the Development Fund and this assisted over 400 people to participate in an Outward Bound program who otherwise would not have been able to do so.
