Rabobank's Young Rural Leader Summit

Rabobank Young Rural Leaders Summit

The Rabobank Young Rural Leaders Summit is an exciting event for 16-18 year olds from across rural Australia interested in developing the necessary leadership skills to make a difference in their community.

Made possible through the generous funding from Rabobank Australia Limited and the Thyne Reid Foundation, the Summit is the creation of Outward Bound Australia specifically for young people living in communities that are members of the Country education Foundation of Australia.

The selected participants attend a seven day Summit that includes a residential leadership program and a wilderness expedition. Over the seven days participants are presented with a variety of challenges and opportunities that will help expand their understanding of themselves and what they can achieve.

During the Summit, the young people identify a community project they would like to initiate when they return to their school or community. This community project may be conducted on their own or with others around the country. Outward Bound support participants with the creation of their Action Plan and the local Education Foundation committee will follow up to mentor the young person when they return home and begin carrying out their project.

Past Community Action Projects included:

  • Environmental projects in schools
  • Anti-Bullying campaigns in schools
  • Organising band events to raise money and awareness for drought relief
  • Raising funds to build a skate park to provide young people in the community with something positive to do
  • Raising funds for schools in Afghanistan and Africa

On the 7th of April, 35 young people from rural areas in New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia will travel to National Base for a unique leadership experience. The participants were nominated by their local Country Education Foundation and will design and implement a project to enrich their community upon their return.
