Senior Leadership Team

Jon D’Almeida – Chief Executive Officer

Jon has come to Outward Bound Australia following 13 years as executive director of The Outward Bound Trust Hong Kong.  During his time in OBHK, Jon established a Training School for incoming staff including a facility for OB Pro and a challenge ropes course; he established a journey based programme at sea using sea kayaks, open ketches and a 67 ft vessel “The Spirit of Outward Bound, Hong Kong”. He also established a Performance Evaluation programme designed to measure the level of effect of the outcomes based courses. He also established a “first” of having OBHK achieve international accreditation from the Association of Experiential Education.

Working within other cultures has been a hallmark of Jon’s OB experience as prior to OBHK, Jon was the Executive Director of Outward Bound South Africa. This was a start up OB centre and was an intentional design to embrace the historical transition from apartheid South Africa to a free and democratic South Africa. During his 10 year role at OBSA, Jon experienced, developed and grew OB from a raw, energetic OB centre to a vital and relevant centre working with issues around post-apartheid, affirmative action and reconciliation.

Prior to setting up OBSA, Jon worked with an applied programme that utilised OB learning principles and a counselling victim/offender model within a residential programme that worked directly with participants with violent and destructive histories. This programme sought to engage participants in challenging and rewarding positive life choices.

Jon also spent 6 years with Outward Bound New Zealand at Anakiwa which followed a number of years in the teaching profession.

Jon engages positive and effective change that produces strong outcomes based programmes and links those programmes with effective, creative and vital people.
